Services

We often forget to focus our awareness on and pay attention to the inner dialogue that’s happening from moment to moment inside us. The inner life I call ‘me’ can become a series of tasks and obligations that are completed for whatever reason. Yet, the quality and tone of your inner life and dialogue are very important to your overall health.

Day by Day counseling services are provided onsite, face-to-face sessions or web-based sessions for individuals, couples, and families. Services are designed to bolster one’s quality of life and well-being.

Individual sessions:

– Self Care & Intrapersonal IQ –

The Loving Myself: Developing Intrapersonal IQ using Self-Care© curriculum. Our greatest universality with other people is that we all perceive the “self” (which is the ‘me’) as, “I”. I am me, and you are you. From your perspective, you would say this exact same phrase – ‘I am me, and you are you.’ – and it would have the same meaning for you, as it does for me. Often we become inundated with work, daily hassles, and we are mindless about what we need to stay healthy. Focusing on yourself is not a greedy, selfish thing to do. Indeed, self-care is a necessary process for complete well-being. Your present routine is benchmarked, and structured support is offered through interactive activities that build a healthier attitude and lifestyle. Learn to employ the greatest degree of love for yourself. Learn to love others as you love yourself.

Couples sessions:

– Relationship counseling –

The Developing Closeness with Your Partner© program of study is designed to develop intimacy between couples. Life presents a myriad of situations and experiences – some are pleasant and others are unpleasant. Are you stuck in a cycle of dissatisfaction in your relationship? This course is designed to spark up romance and closeness. Healthy and positive communication encourages emotional and physical closeness. Emotional intimacy is what most people describe as feeling love or in-love. Emotional intimacy can be experienced in different ways – whether through affection, gifts, service, verbal praise, etc. Physical intimacy is a sacred and loving sexual connection that is part of the bond between partners. Physical intimacy is when partners consent to enjoy physical petting, holding, and exploring of each other’s bodies. If you would like you and your partner to explore sexual topics in a safe environment together, make an appointment.

Couples tend to have a harder time keeping appointments than individuals because of busy schedules, uncertainty and fear, and costs. Here is Day by Day’s approach to the 3 most common couple counseling issues.

Issue # 1- My partner doesn’t want to come to couples counseling.

If your partner doesn’t want to come to therapy, you can still come and learn about yourselfyour part in the situation, and what you want to do to address these issues.

Sometimes when only one person gets help in dealing with their part of the problems, the relationship starts to shift and the unwilling partner may notice and appreciate the change and decide to begin counseling after all.  But that’s not the only reason to begin. The main reason for you to start is to improve your life and overall relationship and romance acumen.

Issue # 2 – It’s too expensive so we cannot afford it.

What’s the cost of not addressing your relationship problems?

If you ignore the problems or continue the same ineffective or maladaptive ways of dealing with the problems, the cost is unhappiness for yourself (and your children, if you have them). The stress that you feel in dealing with the tension and arguing can have an effect on your emotional, physical, and spiritual health.

Day by Day offers affordable rates for couples. See our rates page for more information.

Issue # 3 – Fear about the unknown.

What will couples’ counseling be like?

Counseling is a safe haven for each person to open up without fear of humiliation or attack. Fighting during the session will not be tolerated because is it counterproductive, yet there is no pressure to stay together or to break up. We work together to figure out what is the best choice for each party.

Having someone who doesn’t take sides and stays objective may foster an environment of accountability that often leads to healthier communication. Between partners. Couples counseling also includes relaxation training for both partners and Day by Day realizes that both partners might not be able to make it to the same session time – no problem, we have a plan to deal with it.

– Premarital Counseling –

Day by Day Counseling Center provides a comprehensive Premarital Counseling certificate program for couples. Enjoy this opportunity to reflect on your current and future life together – identifying strengths and areas for growth in the relationship. Avoid unwanted marital disagreements and arguing later by understanding your beliefs, living habits, and characteristics now. Prepare to work together. We strongly encourage couples to initiate this process at least six months before their wedding date.

Core program tenets include:
1. Healthy Communication: how do you let your partner know what you want? How do you share your feelings such as hurt, disappointment, appreciation, or tenderness?

2. Dealing with Conflict: How you deal with conflict (including how you fight). Learn the difference between “You” messages, which often attack or blame, and “I” messages, which convey your wishes and feelings.

3. Self-care and partner care: How do you soothe your partner? Yourself? What do you find comforting? Encouraging? How do you feel and express love?

4. Financial management: Making a budget; Preparing for retirement; The Cost of Kids. Who pays the bills? Exploring attitudes toward money and power sharing.

5. Rules of the house. What are the expectations of your future spouse?

6. Your families of origin: What are your traditions? How are they similar, different? What templates or norms are you bringing into your new relationship from the family you grew up in? Did they talk openly, share feelings, listen, collaborate? How are your spiritual traditions similar and different? What do you value?

7. Deciding about children: Do you desire to have kids? How many, when, etc.; What’s important to you as you raise children?

8. Maintaining Love: How do you arrange time alone and time together? How do (or will) you divide up and share household responsibilities? How do you talk about sexual matters? Are you free to say what you want?

Officiating clergy often welcomes this process as an essential adjunct to wedding preparation. Couples find that this time for reflection and dialogue is an oasis in the midst of busy work lives and wedding planning.
